Oakton College and Girls Play Sports offer new program for local students
Are you looking for a fun and enriching activity for your children this winter? Oakton College and Girls Play Sports invite female-identifying students in grades three to eight to join them for an engaging and educational program at Oakton’s Des Plaines campus.
The sessions, scheduled to run from 4 to 6 p.m. Sundays, from Jan. 21 - March 3, promise a mix of learning and play.
Oakton College has teamed up with Girls Play Sports, an Evanston-based nonprofit dedicated to promoting leadership skills and confidence in girls through sports participation. Through the partnership, the organizations will offer local female-identifying students a program designed to foster a supportive environment, encouraging students to build essential life skills and form lasting connections.
Led by Oakton coaches and student-athletes, each two-hour session will include 90 minutes of learning about the sports discipline and playing.
Additionally, students will spend 30 minutes exploring a topic that contributes to personal growth and development.
The agenda includes discussions on nutrition, how to be a great teammate, confidence building, leadership and the importance of college.
The registration fee for each session is $10, and students have the flexibility to sign up for one or all of the following sessions based on their interests and availability.
• Jan. 21, basketball
• Jan. 28, pickleball
• Feb. 4, soccer
• Feb. 11, golf and tennis
• Feb. 25, softball
• March. 3, volleyball
