Fifth annual Winter Mini Fringe returns to Elgin Public House Jan. 27
The Elgin Fringe Festival, held in downtown Elgin every September, is bringing back their Winter Mini Fringe to Pub 217 at Elgin Public House on Saturday, Jan. 27.
Featuring a lineup of area favorites and newcomers, the one-day mini festival looks to help fringe lovers stave off their winter blues.
Festival pass tickets are $35 online ahead of time or $40 at the door or $15 per show . Tickets are on sale now at www.elginfringefestival.com/tickets. Tickets will be available at the door while seats remain. The Elgin Public House is located at 219 E. Chicago St. in downtown Elgin.
Produced by Side Street Studio Arts and sponsored by the Elgin Cultural Arts Commission and Elgin Public House, Winter Mini Fringe will kick off with Rachel Benzing’s “Love Me or Leave Me” at 3:30 p.m.
What is “identity”? How do past memories and experiences culminate to form a person’s individuality? Are there conscious decisions we make in our life that determine our character or does our identity develop without conscious effort? Digging into her history to seek reflection and answers Rachel Benzing uses her artistic practice of dance and visual art to seek answers to these questions of self-actualization
Moana Lott and friends will bring family-friendly comedy and drag performances to their 5 p.m. performance.
And, the “World's Only Improvised Mariachi Band,” Los Improviachis, will round out the day at 6:30 p.m.
Drawing from traditional Mexican mariachi traditions while infusing modern American musical conventions, Los Improviachis bring "las jajas" to every venue they encounter. The show is highly audience interactive and a lot of fun!
“I love winter fringe,” said Erin Rehberg, Elgin Fringe Fest founder and executive director. “Not only does it allow us to present some of our favs, but we are often able to feature performers who we couldn’t get to from last year’s fringe wait list. We are thrilled to welcome Rachel and the Los Improviachis artists to downtown Elgin.”
Audiences will be able to enjoy food and drink from Elgin Public House during the performances and have a chance to pick up discounted 2024 festival passes.
The mission of the Elgin Fringe Festival is to encourage bold artistic experimentation and innovation by providing an accessible, affordable experience for both artists and audiences alike. For more information contact the Elgin Fringe Festival at (847) 429-2276 or visit elginfringefestival.com.
