Three drivers injured in multi-vehicle crash in Elgin
The drivers of three vehicles involved in an early morning crash Monday on Randall Road in Elgin were all transported to hospitals with minor injuries.
The drivers were the lone occupants of the vehicles at the time of the weather-related crash, Elgin police said.
Officers were called to the crash scene in the southbound lanes of Randall Road just south of Big Timber Road at about 7 a.m., police said.
Police officials said the driver of a pickup headed north lost control of his vehicle because of icy conditions and his vehicle jumped the median. It was then T-boned by a southbound passenger vehicle, which wound up underneath the pickup truck, police said. Seconds later, a southbound tractor-trailer rear-ended the passenger vehicle.
Randall Road was closed for some time to clear the vehicles and debris, as well as de-ice the road, police said.
