Skyview: Timber Trail Park becomes winter wonderland with help from Mother Nature

The tricks of heavy gusting winds and snow flurries that Mother Nature had in store for most of the suburbs this past Halloween was the most significant snowfall that we had seen this season until early in January and now.

The transformation to a winter wonderland was completed overnight by the first real snowfall that successfully had any accumulation.

The Chicago area had an unusually warm winter last year — the 14th warmest on record dating back to 1872 — and the weather seemed to be headed in a similar direction this season.

Bad weather and drones don’t often mix well, but in this case, the fresh snowfall made for a beautiful wintry landscape photo of workers clearing the path at Timber Trails Park in St. Charles with their snow machines.

From about 120 feet in the air looking east from the sledding hill, the dark asphalt path leads us through the frame splitting long snow-covered grass glistening on one side and trees shivering in the bitter wind, branches adorned with snow, on the other.

Winter is here.
