Elgin Area District U-46 schools to be closed Jan. 12

Elgin Area School District U-46 recently announced that they are closing all schools on Friday, Jan. 12, due to the forecast of extreme winter weather conditions. The safety of students and staff is a top priority for the district.

There will be no instruction, and all before- and after-school activities will be canceled Jan. 12, including before- and after-school care. The school year will be extended to make up the day.

The district’s central office, the Educational Services Center, will be open, as well as the U-46 Welcome Center. Additionally, U-46 school administrators will be in their buildings and facilities on Friday.

The district wishes to remind residents that many municipalities provide information and resources such as emergency assistance, housing resources, and more. In Kane County, residents can call 2-1-1 for information about food, clothing, and shelter, among other needs.

The district will continue to closely monitor the weather and provide an update to families regarding the status of the reopening of schools. They also will continue to update the District website and social media channels. Follow School District U-46 on Facebook and Instagram. Please stay safe, healthy, and warm.
