Suburbs brace for possibility of heavy snowfall, plummeting temperatures

Parts of the suburbs could see more than 6 inches of snow by the end of Saturday, while temperatures are expected to plummet in the aftermath of the snowstorm.

That’s according to forecasts from the National Weather Service bureau in Romeoville, which is warning of a pending storm beginning Friday morning that could bring more heavy snow to parts of suburban Chicago with wind gusts in excess of 50 mph.

Meteorologists warn of potential blizzard-like conditions at times.

Forecast models show the heavier snow expected in the northern portion of the suburbs, while the western and south suburbs could get as little as 4 inches.

Once the storm moves on, temperatures are expected to drop significantly Sunday with highs in the single digits through Tuesday and wind chills possibly as low as -30 degrees at times.

Officials are urging motorists to stay off the roads unless necessary and warming centers are expected to be open throughout the region.
