Reports of man with gun puts Rolling Meadows schools on lockdown

A Rolling Meadows man faces a disorderly conduct charge after police responded to reports of someone waving a gun at passing drivers Thursday morning near Algonquin Road and Route 53, authorities said.

Juan F. Guzman-Andrade, 26, of the 4700 block of Arbor Drive, was arrested at the scene, though police added that an investigation revealed there was no weapon.

The incident led to nearby schools being placed on lockdown as a precaution while police investigated.

Rolling Meadows police said they received a call at about 8:06 a.m. reporting a man walking with a gun near the heavily traveled intersection.

Officers located the suspect and searched him but did not find a weapon, according to police. No injuries were reported.

Palatine Township Elementary School District 15 sent an email Thursday morning to families of students at Willow Bend Elementary School telling them that police had put the school on a hard lockdown. At 8:34 a.m., police reported that a person was apprehended and the school could lift the lockdown, according to the email.

“As always, we’d like to remind our school community that safety is a shared responsibility. We ask for your support in following our policy of ‘See Something, Hear Something, Say Something,’” the email states. “We depend on everyone within our school community to share information with us in order to keep our school safe.”
