Man charged with hitting police car during chase

A Chicago man has been charged with aggravated battery to a police officer after a chase out of the Oakbrook Center mall in which the man also allegedly hit a police car.

Daveon Taylor, 22, of the 4900 block of West Hubbard Street, appeared in DuPage County First Appearance Court on Thursday. Judge Joshua Dieden denied pretrial release.

Besides the aggravated battery, he is charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding and criminal damage to government-supported property.

Police responded to a disturbance at 9:57 p.m. Wednesday at a movie theater at the Oak Brook mall. Authorities allege Taylor left the scene quickly, and officers ordered him to stop. He went to his car in the parking lot, with officers running after him.

As he pulled out, he brushed up against an officer’s leg, according to authorities.

It is alleged he then hit an Oak Brook police car and disobeyed two traffic lights.

Oak Brook police ended the pursuit for safety reasons.

Wheaton police found the vehicle about 30 minutes later on Roosevelt Road and arrested Taylor.

Among other charges, Taylor is also charged with misdemeanor battery, accused of hitting a person with a cardboard sign from the movie theater lobby, and misdemeanor criminal damage to property for allegedly damaging that person’s phone.
