Mike Pompeo to headline Barrington’s Town-Warming event

Former U.S. Secretary of State and CIA Director Mike Pompeo will be the keynote speaker next month at Barrington’s seventh annual Town-Warming.

Pompeo, once considered a presidential hopeful, will appear virtually at the event, set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at Barrington’s White House.

The yearly gathering is a Barrington tradition with its roots in the Great Depression. It brings together some of the nation’s and the community’s most influential business, religious, academic and civic leaders to address significant issues facing the country.

This year’s program is entitled “Intelligence: Artificial, Political, Central.” Pompeo will speak virtually from overseas with Motorola Solutions Chairman and CEO Greg Brown.

In addition, Brown will give an introductory talk about the rise of China.

Other highlights include a panel discussion on artificial intelligence with Jason Cummings, lead advocate for state and local government and education at Google; Daniel Linna, senior lecturer and director of law and technology at Northwestern University’s Pritzker School of Law; and Jason Steinhauer, global fellow at the Wilson Center in Washington, D.C. and founder of the History Communication Institute.

A second panel discussion will take an in-depth look at the 2024 election through the eyes of several prominent Chicago-based journalists and political analysts.

Other guests will include Barrington native and L.A. Times columnist Chris Erskine and professional storyteller Jenny Riddle, who will portray broadcast journalist Barbara Walters.

Panel moderators will include Corey McPherrin of Fox News Chicago and Brad Cole of the Illinois Municipal League.

“We are thrilled to welcome Mike Pompeo as our keynote speaker for this year’s Town-Warming,” Village President Karen Darch said in an announcement of the program Wednesday. “As the former Secretary of State and CIA Director, his perspective on today’s world will be enlightening and informative.”

Darch will serve as the host for the day, and Rector David Gibbons of St. Mark’s Episocal Church of Barrington Hills will deliver opening remarks.

Tickets are $150 and include live viewing of the program in the 3rd-floor ballroom of Barrington’s White House, continental breakfast, boxed lunch, and cocktail reception. For tickets and information, go to www.barringtonswhitehouse/events.
