Winter storm warning continues for Kane, Lake, McHenry counties. Second round of snow on the way
Kane, Lake and McHenry counties remain under a winter storm warning as another round of snow is expected to hit the suburbs later this morning and continue into the evening.
Several more inches of accumulating snow are expected today with winds up to 45 mph causing blowing and drifting snow. The warning is set to expire at midnight.
Snow rates could exceed 1 inch per hour at times during the storm.
Snow and blowing snow could make travel hazardous.
Cook and DuPage counties are in a winter weather advisory until midnight.
Some Western suburbs could see up to 9 inches of snow, with lesser amounts possible closer to the lake.
Temperatures today should remain just above freezing.
