Evil must be confronted and stopped

I see in the media and even on the editorial page protests about the citizens of Gaza and how they’re being treated by the Israelis. I wasn’t born before World War II, but my guess is that very few people here would have protested the treatment of the citizens of the Axis nations with carpet bombing and fire bombing and so on during World War II.

We are all well aware of how the Nazis and the forces of the Japanese empire treated people they conquered and prisoners of war. We are well aware of the cruelty and inhumane treatment that they dished out with no conscience whatsoever. People were also well aware that such evil regimes had to be stopped, no matter what the cost.

So, please explain to me why as tragic as it is that there are protests about how the citizens of Gaza are being treated. Let us be aware on Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas invaded Israel and committed untold atrocities to innocent citizens. They even murdered babies and took hostages. Then they escaped to hide in Gaza using the citizens of Gaza as human shields. So, what is Israel supposed to do? They have to go into Gaza to eliminate Hamas and thus protect their country.

This is really no different than what the Allied powers were doing against the Axis powers in World War II. As tragic as it is, I don’t think people prioritized stopping the bombing as they knew the end goal had to be the elimination of these evil regimes.

The common thread among the Axis powers and Hamas is simply cowardice. What kind of person uses innocent civilians to hide among after committing atrocities?

Hamas needs to surrender and face the consequences of their actions. If this were to happen, there would be no reason for Israel to go after them any further. However, you can bet they never will. It’s way too late for them to show any kind of courage.
