Naperville’s Hobson School invites alumni to help celebrate 60th anniversary

Hobson School, Naperville’s first and oldest preschool, is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2024. Special events will honor the school’s history and deep roots in the Naperville community.

Celebrations began Dec. 1, 2023, with a luncheon at Meson Sabika that brought together many who have served on the school’s leadership, including as staff, as teachers, or on the parent board of directors.

Guests included the children of two of the school’s founders: Erik Haugsnes, son of Helen Haugsnes, and Penny Turner Schaschwary, daughter of Ruth Turner. These special guests added a profound sense of legacy and continuity to the gathering.

Attendees shared memories, celebrated the school’s achievements, and discussed future plans. Current director Beth Wilson and Parent Board president Kate Hall expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who attended as the school looks to continue nurturing young children with the support of its extended community.

Founded by a group of parents in 1964, Hobson School offers a play-based, nature-rich education of the highest quality for young children.

As a cooperative preschool, Hobson emphasizes the importance of active parental involvement in creating a supportive environment where children, families, and educators can thrive.

The school’s philosophy is driven by research showing the critical role of positive relationships between teachers, children and families in early childhood success.

Any Hobson School alumni (whether parents, teachers, or students) who would like to to be notified of upcoming events, special newsletters and anniversary celebrations should email hobson60@hobsonschool.org.

Events will include the school’s annual social fundraiser in the spring, as well as a celebration at the school itself in the fall.
