Spotlight: Theo Ubique showcases new works, Theatre Week tickets on sale

New works

Theo Ubique Theater showcases new works as part of its Winterfest series, which commences Saturday, Jan. 6, with a music and theater cabaret. The showcase includes “Modern Gentleman,” about a trans man navigating dating after his partner of five years leaves him; “Our Way Back Home,” consisting of songs by composer/lyricists Samuel Perlman and Mitchell Huntley; and “Home for the Summer,” about cousins returning home after their first year of college, among other works.

More than 100 suburban and city theaters will participate in the 12th Chicago Theatre Week running Feb. 8-18. A tale of faith and family

A Red Orchid Theatre stages the Chicago premiere of “In Quietness,” Anna Ouyang Moench’s examination of family, faith and community about a woman who follows her born-again husband to a Southern Baptist seminar, where she enrolls in a training program for future homemakers. AROT ensemble member Dado directs a cast that includes artistic director Kirsten Fitzgerald (“Swing State” in Chicago and New York) and Gift Theatre co-artistic director Brittany Burch.

Curious Theatre Branch revival

Curious Theatre Branch revives “Hit Me Like a Flower,” a 2004 comedy by co-founder and co-artistic director Beau O'Reilly. Set during the Iraq War in a small, East Coast town called Little Chicken Mountain, the play centers on an overworked therapist, a patient recovering from a stroke and skateboarding activists, all of whom are coping with constant rain and a bear attack.
