Poplar Creek Public Library begins Winter Reading Challenge on Jan. 8

The Poplar Creek Public Library is set to begin its much-anticipated “Book Your Escape” Winter Reading Challenge on Monday, Jan. 8. Readers of all ages are encouraged to embark on literary adventures for a chance to win fantastic prizes.

“It is the hope of Poplar Creek Public Library District that the Winter Reading Challenge gives patrons the chance to find literature that encourages and empowers them to learn and be entertained,” said Debra Stombres, executive director of Poplar Creek Public Library. “In the chill of winter, nothing quite matches the thrill of opening a book and journeying to distant lands or historical ages.”

Participants aim to read up to 750 minutes throughout the challenge, earning a completion prize of a Poplar Creek Public Library District-themed beach mat. The Winter Reading Challenge extends an open invitation to all literary enthusiasts, allowing various reading formats, including books, graphic novels, audiobooks, and more. Beyond the joy of reading, participants can expect rewards for signing up for the challenge and reaching the midway goal of 325 minutes of reading.

There are three ways to register for the challenge. Readers can sign up online at https://pclib.readsquared.com/ComingSoon.aspx; through the READsquared app available from the App Store for iOS devices or Google Play Store for Android, or by calling (630) 837-6800 to “Book Their Escape” this winter and take on the Winter Reading Challenge. The program will end on Friday, Feb. 23, 2024.
