Black Tulip features the music of female composers at Jan. 7-8 concerts

Continuing its 10th season with the “New Horizons” theme, Chamber Music on the Fox will feature “Court, Convent & Stage: Redefining the Early Modern Woman” on Jan. 7-8.

Black Tulip is a multinational ensemble featuring soprano Josefien Stoppelenburg (the Netherlands); Mirja Lorenz on recorders (Germany); Phillip W. Serna, violas da gamba (U.S.); and Joel Spears, lutes and theorbo (U.S.).

This innovative program immerses the audience in a vivid and dynamic concert experience that explores the complex cultural lives of 17th- and 18th-century female composers and their audiences.

Vocal and instrumental works by Francesca Caccini, Élisabeth Jacquet De-la Guerre, Isabella Leonarda, Barbara Strozzi & others are featured.

The concerts will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, at New England Congregational Church, 406 W. Galena Blvd. in Aurora.

It will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, at First Congregational Church of Dundee, 900 S. Eighth St. in West Dundee.

Tickets are available beforehand for $25 and $15 for students by contacting the Chamber’s office at (224) 276-8881 or online at www.chambermusiconthefox.org or purchased at the door. Tickets for a virtual performance, Jan. 9-23, are also available for $25.
