Aurora Greek Orthodox churches to bless Fox River Jan. 6

Aurora Greek Orthodox churches will bless the Fox River at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at RiverEdge Park pedestrian bridge, 360 N. Broadway in Aurora.

Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church and St. Athanasius Romanian Orthodox Church both in Aurora, will partner in a Feast of Theophany service.

Theophany, in western Christianity, commemorates the visit of the Magi to the Christ Child, and thus Jesus Christ's physical manifestation to the gentiles.

This blessing commemorates Jesus' baptism in the Jordan River, revealing the blessed trinity for the first time. As a priest incenses the water, it symbolizes the descent of the Holy Spirit.
