Man pleads guilty to shooting wife to death

A Montgomery man has pleaded guilty to murdering his wife after she filed for divorce.

Timothy A. Gordon, 48, of the 1300 block of Oak Ridge Lane, pleaded guilty on Dec. 22 to one count of first-degree murder for the 2022 death of 35-year-old Yajaira Gordon.

Yajaira Gordon filed for divorce on Sept. 23, 2022.

They continued to live in the same house, with Gordon in the basement and Yajaira Gordon and members of her family on the upper floors, according to a news release from the Kane County state’s attorney’s office.

Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney presented the agreement. He told Judge Clint Hull that on Oct. 31, 2022, Gordon became angry after learning Yajaira Gordon was going to seek a court order to remove him from the house. Around noon that day, he went to a room upstairs, where Yajaira Gordon was seated at a computer desk and asked why she was doing so and added that he had no place to live.

Yajaira Gordon told him to “stop coming up here,” and he shot her in the left temple with a .25-caliber Beretta. Yajaira Gordon’s aunt, mother and two young children were in the room.

Gordon could be sentenced to 45 years to life in prison. Gordon’s next court date is April 29 for post-trial motions and sentencing. The sentence includes a mandatory enhancement of 25 years for using a gun.
