Elgin man charged with sexually assaulting woman
A Kane County man accused of attacking a woman on Saturday in Algonquin has been charged with sexual assault, officials said.
Patricio J. Salas, 32, of Elgin, is charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault - armed with a dangerous weapon, aggravated criminal sexual assault - acts in a manner that threatens the life of the victim, aggravated domestic battery - strangulation and aggravated unlawful restraint, according to a news release from the Kane County sheriff’s office.
Deputies were dispatched at 6:25 a.m. to an Algonquin home for a report of an attack that had lasted several hours, the release stated.
The woman told deputies she was held at knifepoint in a bedroom. She tried several times to call 911, but Salas took her phone, according to the news release. She was finally able to text “help” to her brother-in-law, who came to the home.
The brother-in-law and Salas fought; the woman escaped the bedroom, according to the news release. A relative removed Salas from the house, a Kane County prosecutor told Judge Salvatore LoPiccolo. He was found nearby after crashing his vehicle, according to the release.
LoPiccolo denied pretrial release for Salas.
