Nine taken to hospitals after six-vehicle crash near Marengo

Nine people were taken to hospitals Saturday evening after a six-vehicle crash on westbound I-90 in McHenry County which saw one of the vehicles roll onto its roof and erupt in flames, authorities said.

Hampshire Fire Protection District officials said firefighters called to the crash scene near Marengo at 6:43 p.m. arrived to find the vehicle fully engulfed in fire.

In addition to the nine people taken to hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to serious, two others were treated at the scene, officials said.

Illinois State Police are investigating the crash, fire officials said.

Shortly after the six-vehicle crash, a crash involving four vehicles occurred on westbound I-90 about a half-mile away. Six people were treated at the scene and two others refused emergency medical services, according to the fire district.
