White Sox sign Flexen to one-year contract
The White Sox need plenty of help in the starting rotation and bullpen.
Chris Flexen is the latest candidate with the potential to pitch in either role. The Sox signed the right-hander to a one-year, $1.75 million contract Saturday.
Flexen, 29, split last season between Seattle and Colorado and was a combined 2-8 with a 6.86 ERA in 29 games (16 starts).
Beginning the year with the Mariners, Flexen was designated for assignment on June 27, traded to the Mets on July 3 and released by New York three days later. The Rockies signed Flexen on July 13.
Over six seasons with the Mets, Mariners and Rockies, the 6-foot-3, 230-pound Flexen is 27-34 with a 4.95 ERA in 120 games (80 starts).
In 2021-22, Flexen combined to go 22-15 with a 3.66 ERA in 53 starts for Seattle.
To clear a spot for Flexen on the 40-man roster, the White Sox designated catcher Carlos Perez for assignment. In 27 games with the Sox last season, Perez hit .204 with 1 home run and 3 RBI.
