Albright Community Theatre sets auditions for ‘The Desk Set’

Albright Community Theatre will hold auditions for its upcoming production of “The Desk Set” by William Marchant.

Auditions will be 7 p.m. Monday and Sunday, Jan. 7-8, at the theater on the third floor of the Batavia Government Center, 100 N. Island Ave. Entry is the main doorway across from the parking lot directly in front of the building.

This is an open call audition consisting of cold readings from the script. No audition appointment is necessary. No monologue required.

The comedy, which was later adapted into a 1957 movie with Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracey, follows Bunny Watson with her encyclopedic knowledge of facts and figures who works in the reference department of a television network. A room-sized computer is installed to do the work of people, soon replacing whole departments, but Emmaracs can not best Bunny and her colleagues in a game of wits soon causing information overload and blown fuses. Here is a telling comedy rich in hilarity for anyone who has ever worked in an office. These filing cabinets are packed full of humor, a little office gossip, some romance, and a whole lot of confusion.

Performances, with director Ayden Lopez, will be in the end of February and beginning of March. Dates to be announced soon.

All roles are available; there has been no precasting of roles. This is an adult show. People of all races and genders are urged to audition.

The characters include: Bunny Watson, Sadel Meyer, Peg Costello, Ruthie Saylor, Richard Sumner, Abe Cutler, Kenny, Mr. Bennett, Elsa, Miss Rumple, Elsa's Friend, Miss Warriner, The Man in Shirt-Sleeves, The Lady in the Blue Suit, a Reporter, and Photographer.
