Man accused of murdering half-brother on Christmas Day

A man has been charged with shooting his half-brother to death on Christmas Day in a home near Naperville.

Kendall Yarborough, 28, of the 1700 block of Nantucket Court in Palm Harbor, Florida, is charged with one count of first-degree murder, according to DuPage County court records.

He appeared in first-appearance court Tuesday morning, and his pretrial detention hearing will continue Wednesday afternoon.

The victim was James Javonne Watson. Court records do not indicate how old he was or where he lived. He was shot in the abdomen. He was pronounced dead at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

According to a prosecutor’s petition for pretrial detention, the shooting happened around 3 p.m., in a house in the 25W0-99 block of Wood Court.

Relatives told deputies that Watson was intoxicated, became upset when he could not find his cellphone, and slammed a card table. They then heard a bang, and Watson told them “I think he shot me,” according to the petition.

When deputies arrived, Yarborough was outside the house, and a Sig Sauer P-365X 9 mm handgun was on a chair outside. His sister told deputies she had seen him take a black handgun outside, according to the petition.
