Round Lake Beach police seek help in identifying suspect in burglary

Round Lake Beach police are asking for the public’s help in solving a vape shop break-in.

According to police, a vape shop in the 600 block of West Rollins Road was burglarized around 2:08 a.m. on Dec. 4. The only item stolen had a value of $14.99, but police said the front door was shattered to gain access and is estimated to cost $1,000 to replace.

“The loss really is the damage to the property,” said Round Lake Beach police Deputy Chief Ryan Rodriguez.

He said video shows the offender throwing a rock through the front door, going into the store and then taking one item before fleeing. Rodriguez said the offender may have been frightened by the sound of the security alarm and fled.

Police describe the male offender as being 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, about 140 pounds with a thick build. The offender was wearing gray sweatpants, a red T-shirt, white shoes and was carrying a black and red backpack at the time of the burglary.

Anyone with information about the crime should contact investigations Cmdr. Paul Grace at (847) 546-2127.
