Naperville skate facility gets updates, new name

Naperville Park District’s Centennial Park skate facility is reopening with a new name and update.

Renamed the Rothermel Family Skate Facility, the renovated skate park opens Thursday. The park district received a $120,000 grant from the Rothermel Family Fund of DuPage Foundation to replace equipment and update the facility.

The facility’s new design now features an in-ground concrete skate park with a “bowl” design, improved accessibility and other features.

As part of the grant, the district agreed to rename the skate facility. This is the second grant the district has received from the Rothermel Family Fund of DuPage Foundation. Earlier this year, the district opened six pickleball courts on the east side of the Frontier Sports Complex after receiving a $100,000 grant from the foundation.

The district plans to host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the skate facility in the spring.
