Woman injured in Elk Grove Village house fire

An Elk Grove Village woman was hospitalized and her home left uninhabitable after a fire Wednesday, authorities said.

Firefighters responded at 11:15 a.m. to the split-level home at Kendal Road and Lancaster Avenue and saw heavy smoke and flames believed to have originated in the living room, according to Battalion Chief Matt Bonilla.

Bonilla said the resident was discovered in a second-floor bedroom and taken to the hospital for unspecified injuries; her condition was unknown Wednesday night. No other injuries were reported.

The house was deemed uninhabitable due to extensive fire and smoke damage throughout.

The fire is being investigated by local and state fire marshals. A cause hadn’t yet been determined.
