Lake Co. forest preserve goes electric with new work vans

Forest district to replace two work vans with electric models

The Lake County Forest Preserve District will replace two work vans with electric models.

The forest board recently approved a $113,180 contract for two 2024 Ford E-Transit vans to be used by the painting and HVAC/Electrical/Plumbing crews. An additional $5,000 each will be spent to outfit the work vans for specific tasks.

The vehicles were selected to replace 2012 and 2014 work vans in accordance with the district’s Green Fleet Policy.

The vehicles will be based primarily at the operations and public safety facility near Lindenhurst, parked in a temperature-controlled garage and charged overnight each day, with a projected range of 236 miles on a full charge.
