Aurora man charged with possession of child pornography
Aurora police have arrested a resident on charges of possession of child pornography.
Jose Chavez-Valdez, 46, of the 700 block of East New York Street, was arrested Monday, according to a news release from the police department.
Police did an online investigation earlier this year of activity involving child exploitation, which led to Chavez-Valdez’s home.
A search done Monday found multiple unspecified electronic devices with child pornography on them, according to police.
He appeared in first-appearance court Tuesday, where a Kane County judge denied the prosecution’s petition to detain Chavez-Valdez pretrial. His next court date is Jan. 10.
"The arrest of Chavez-Valdez is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our law enforcement personnel who tirelessly strive to protect the most vulnerable members of our society," said Keith Cross, chief of the Aurora Police Department. "Crimes involving child exploitation are reprehensible, and we will use every available resource to investigate those who engage in such activities."
