Aurora man charged with attempted murder in October shooting

A 22-year-old Aurora man is facing attempted murder charges for an October shooting on the city’s near east side.

Aurora police officials said David Ponce and another individual were involved in some type of “disturbance” outside a home on the 1000 block of Grand Boulevard on the evening of Oct. 13.

Police said Ponce displayed a firearm during the argument and the other individual retreated to a vehicle occupied by a third person.

Police said Ponce opened fire on the vehicle, striking it multiple times, but not the individuals inside.

Ponce then fled the scene before officers arrived, but investigators eventually secured an arrest warrant and took him into custody Dec. 14.

He is also charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm by a street gang member and no firearm owner identification card.

Ponce is currently being held at the Kane County jail after pre-trial release was denied, authorities reported.
