Aurora hosts street dedication for Purpose City Way

Even a rainy, gray weekend couldn’t put a damper on the energy and defeat the purpose of a special street dedication in Aurora.

Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin was joined by Aurora City Council members to unveil the new street name for Purpose City Church in Aurora.

Appropriately named “Purpose City Way,” the honorary street name reflects the new use of a longtime church site in Aurora.

Two months ago, All Nations Aurora Church and its predominantly Black congregation merged with the majority-white congregation of Ginger Creek Church and launched the Purpose City Church at the former Ginger Creek Church campus.

“You have helped to fulfill our ‘One Aurora’ goal in this city,” said Mayor Richard C. Irvin. “ Your intentional merger of two communities has certainly given a renewed purpose in Aurora.”

Pastor Talaat McNeely was joined by his family to unveil the new street sign to the cheers of many congregation members who waited outside in the rain for the historic moment.

“Our goal is to be of service to and a reflection of our beautiful, diverse city of Aurora,” McNeely said.
