A community success at Evergreen Cemetery

This year’s theme for Wreaths Across America was “Serve and Succeed.” This fifth annual patriotic remembrance event in Barrington definitely was a success, primarily due to the support of the community organizations that made commitments of time or and financial assistance.
Despite the rainy, chilly weather, nearly 200 people attended the Wreaths Across America Day program on Saturday, Dec. 16, at Evergreen Cemetery in Barrington. Members of the Signal Hill Chapter, of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, welcomed and guided community attendees to participate in a brief memorial service at noon, and then issued live balsam wreaths for placement on the graves of 807 veterans interred at the cemetery.
Throughout 2023, the Signal Hill Chapter garnered financial support from Veterans of Lake Barrington Shores, American Legion Post 690, UBS Financial of Barrington, as well as chapter members and area citizens.
Barrington High School’s football team assisted with receiving and staging the delivery of multiple boxes of wreaths that had been received a few days prior. Barrington-area Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts participated in the Memorial Ceremony and honored guests included Village President Karen Darch and State Senator Dan McConchie.
Despite the weather challenges, all wreaths were placed in a 90-minute time frame.
This annual event is enabled by the support of the Board and staff of Evergreen Cemetery Association, whose enthusiasm and guidance has helped make Wreaths Across America Day a Holiday tradition in Barrington.
