Highland students selected for ILMEA Honor Orchestra

Three Highland Middle School orchestra students were selected to play for the Illinois Music Education Associations Honor Orchestra Festival Day of Music, and were honored at School District 70’s November board meeting.

Carol Janossy’s students, Ismael Obaid, eighth-grade viola; Bree Summers, seventh-gade viola; and Francis Tscheyka, seventh-grade bass, were honored for their musical skills and dedication.

Students have to audition and be selected to play in the ILMEA Honor Orchestra and this is one of the highest honors a musician can receive in their young years. Janossy said 345 young musicians from ILMEA Districts auditioned for the orchestra and 130 were accepted. Students talked briefly about the honor and why it is important to them.
