Man pleads guilty to robbing Aurora 7-Eleven
A man has pleaded guilty to the armed robbery of a 7-Eleven store in Aurora.
Quintez Smith-Stewart, 25, accepted a sentence Friday of eight years in prison.
A Kane County prosecutor told Judge John Barsanti that on Jan. 4, Smith-Stewart robbed the store at 1615 Montgomery Road using a deadly weapon, a metal object.
The clerk told authorities she saw what she believed to be a handgun. No gun was recovered. Smith-Stewart’s attorney, William Gibbs, told Barsanti Smith-Stewart told the clerk he had a gun.
Smith-Stewart took her cellphone and cash from a register.
Charges of attempted aggravated criminal sexual assault and armed robbery were dropped in exchange for the plea.
At a February court hearing, a prosecutor told the judge that Smith-Stewart threatened to kill the clerk, told her to perform a sex act and exposed himself.
Smith-Stewart will have to serve 50% of his sentence before being eligible for parole. He received credit for the 345 days he has spent in the Kane County jail awaiting trial.
Court records list Smith-Stewart’s address as being a shelter for the homeless in Aurora.
