3 jailed in DuPage on weapons charges after high-speed chase

Three Chicago men face multiple felony charges following a high-speed chase that began in Oak Brook Wednesday.

According to court records, the trio were under surveillance by Oak Brook police who were alerted that the car they were in was wanted in connection with a recent jewelry store armed robbery in New York.

Officers spotted the vehicle at a strip mall on the 2100 block of 22nd Street. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver made several illegal maneuvers and sped away, west on 22nd.

A pursuit involving officers from multiple departments ensued, including a Chicago police helicopter.

The vehicle came to a stop on the 6400 block of West Higgins Avenue in Chicago and all three men were taken into custody. A search of the vehicle yielded a loaded Glock 29 with a laser, an extended magazine and a switch that converts the weapon into a fully automatic machine gun and a loaded Glock 19 with a fifty-round drum magazine and a defaced serial number.

Following the pursuit, Jeremiah Dawson, 21, was charged with being an armed habitual criminal, possession of a loaded machine gun, unlawful possession of a weapon or ammunition by a felon, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number.

Isaiah Dukes, 26, is charged with possession of a loaded machine gun, theft of stolen goods exceeding $10,000 but not more than $100,000 and possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number. Authorities said when Dukes was arrested, he was wearing a $90,000 necklace they believe was stolen during the armed robbery in New York.

Tavon Garland, 19, is charged with possession of a loaded machine gun, unlawful possession of a weapon or ammunition by a felon and possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number.

A DuPage County judge denied the trio pre-trial release during a hearing late Thursday. The trio are being held at the DuPage County jail.
