Libertyville native Peterson signs with Celtics

The Boston Celtics officially signed Libertyville native Drew Peterson to a two-way contract on Thursday.

The 6-foot-8 forward started college at Rice, then transferred and spent three seasons at USC. He wasn’t chosen in the NBA draft, played for Miami in summer league, then joined the Heat’s G-League affiliate in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he averaged 15.2 points.

Peterson was captain of the Daily Herald’s Lake County All-Area team in 2018 after leading Libertyville High School to a North Suburban Conference title.

Before Thursday’s game against Cleveland, Celtics coach Joe Mazzullo was asked what the team liked about Peterson and replied, “His ability to shoot, his ability to think,” while comparing him to Boston forward Sam Hauser.
