3 University of Chicago students make Forbes’ ‘30 Under 30’ list

University of Chicago doctoral student Shawn Shan and alumni Emily Wenger and Jenna Cryan were named to the Forbes “30 Under 30” list for 2024.

Forbes editors selected the trio for their work on Glaze, a tool for artists to protect their creative property against AI training models. Glaze, developed under the leadership of Professor Ben Zhao, has roughly 1.6 million downloads worldwide.

This is the first time University of Chicago’s Department of Computer Science has had students make the list.

Forbes scours the globe for talented people to include in its “30 Under 30” lists, considering application-based nominations and insights from reporters. This year, more than 11,000 nominations were received for North America alone.

Honorees are divided into 20 categories. Shan, Wenger, and Cryan were celebrated in the Consumer Technology division, which recognizes the creators of products that better people’s daily lives.
