Police: Man attempted to enter Bartlett home while armed with shotgun

A South Elgin man faces a felony weapons charges after he tried to enter a Bartlett residence Saturday night while armed with a shotgun following an earlier verbal altercation there, authorities said.

Ryan Haar, 40, is charged with possession of a firearm with a revoked firearm owner's ID - a Class 3 felony - and two class A misdemeanor unlawful use of a weapon charges.

Bartlett police said that at about 7:50 p.m. Saturday officers responded to the 400 block of Taylor Avenue for a report of a person armed with a shotgun trying to enter a residence.

Haar left the residence after a previous altercation and returned a short time later with the weapon, police said.

Haar departed the scene in a vehicle before police arrived, but the vehicle later was located and stopped by officers, authorities said.

Officers found a loaded 12-gauge shotgun in the trunk and a switchblade knife on Haar's person, police said.

Haar appeared in court Sunday for a detention hearing, during which he was denied pretrial release and ordered held in custody. His next court hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Cook County courthouse in Rolling Meadows.
