Police: Man falsely reported armed robbery

A 50-year-old Bartlett man accused of making a false report of an armed robbery now is facing charges, police said.

Nileshkumar Patel was charged Friday with disorderly conduct and aggravated assault, which are both felonies, Bartlett police said in a news release Saturday.

Officers responded about 7:25 p.m. Tuesday to a business in Brewster Creek Centre on the 800 block of Route 59 for a report of an armed robbery with gun, according to the release.

Patel provided information about an armed robbery, while knowing one had not occurred, police said.

He also engaged in conduct that placed a police officer performing official duties "in reasonable apprehension of receiving a battery," according to the release.

Patel was released after First Appearance Court; his next court date is scheduled for Jan. 8 in Wheaton.
