Memorial unveiled for East Aurora veterans

On Thursday, Nov. 9, East Aurora Unit District 131 unveiled a memorial honoring East Aurora veterans who gave their lives fighting for our freedom.

The memorial was inspired by Pete Andrews, whose uncle, Peter N. Andrews, a 1940 East Aurora graduate, was killed in action while serving in the Marine Corp during World War II.

Retired U.S. Navy Commander Michael M. Kerley, who is now the Senior Naval Science Instructor at East Aurora High School, gave the keynote address. Melisa Bonilla sang the national anthem.

The unveiling was followed by a breakfast reception.

The memorial is located on the East Aurora High School campus on the northeast corner of Ellis Stadium. A plaque on the memorial reads "In memory of all East Aurora veterans who gave their lives fighting for our freedom."
