Suburban hospital group NorthShore — Edward-Elmhurst Health rebrands as Endeavor Health

After nearly two years as a multihyphenate medical group, the parent company of several suburban hospitals is rebranding as Endeavor Health.

Officials at the soon-to-be-former NorthShore — Edward-Elmhurst Health, which operates Edward Hospital in Naperville, Elmhurst Hospital, Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights and six other area hospitals, said they chose the new moniker after a “yearlong journey” to find an identity that reflects the mission of the medical group to “help everyone in our communities be their best.”

“Endeavor is a word that is both an aspiration and an undertaking,” said J.P. Gallagher, Endeavor Health's president and CEO. “This new brand will complement, not replace our existing hospitals.”

New signage and an advertising campaign will begin at the start of the New Year, but the company is launching its new website, endeavorhealth.org, today as part of the rebranding drive.

“Nothing really changes for our patients,” Gallagher said. “The patient relationships remain the same.”

Endeavor Health became the third-largest health care network in Illinois in January 2022 when the merger between NorthShore University HealthSystem and Edward-Elmhurst Health was finalized.

Gallagher said about a year into the merger, a rebranding effort began in earnest to provide a cohesive identity for the network of nine hospitals and 27,000-plus employees. Several options were considered and then pared down after clearing any trademark issues. The potential finalists were bandied about among the hospital group's board of directors before Endeavor Health was chosen.

“All options were on the table, but we thought using a real word was a good place to anchor off,” Gallagher said. “'Endeavor' is also unique in the health care space.”

Multifunctional as a word, endeavor means “to try hard to achieve something” as a verb and “an attempt to achieve a goal” as a noun.

“As part of one team, we are driven by our commitment — our endeavor — to set a new standard for health care by delivering a truly personal patient experience combined with seamless access to pioneering, world-class care,” Gallagher said when announcing the rebrand today.

Gallagher said there are no current plans to grow the network, but if other hospitals wanted to join Endeavor Health, “that's a topic for another day.”

Endeavor Health also operates Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview, Skokie Hospital, Evanston Hospital, Linden Oaks Behavioral Health Hospital in Naperville and Swedish Hospital in Chicago.
