2 Batavia schools locked up while police searched nearby for person with gun

Batavia High School and H.C. Storm Elementary School were placed in secure status Thursday morning, as police searched for a person with a gun on nearby Wilson Street.

Around 10:48 a.m. police were called to Wilson and Randall Road. They were told a person in a gray Honda SUV displayed a black handgun toward another vehicle.

The suspect was last seen driving east on Wilson, police said.

The high school is on Wilson, about two blocks east of Randall; the elementary school is two blocks north of Wilson.

Police could not find the suspect or the vehicle.

"Secure" status means the schools secured their doors and windows, and nobody was allowed to enter or leave the building. Classes proceeded as usual.

There was no direct threat to either school, police said.
