Lombard's Jingle Bell Jubilee set to ring in season

Tis' the season to be jolly! The village of Lombard and Lombard Park District are hosting just what you and your family need to be jolly this holiday season.

There will be an assortment of winter festivities all month long starting with the annual Jingle Bell Jubilee event on Saturday, Dec. 2, in Lilacia Park, 150 S. Park Ave.

Enjoy the tree lighting ceremony and Santa's arrival at 5:30 p.m. followed by the visits with Santa Claus, hot chocolate, cookies, giveaways and more until 8 p.m.

Some community groups and institutions are hosting a variety of holiday activities around town on Saturday. There will be a complimentary trolley running from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Note that changes to the schedule may occur.

Lombard firefighters will be on-site at the park district's administrative office at 227 W. Parkside Ave., collecting toys and baby supplies for their annual toy drive. The drive will support Teen Parent Connection and Toy Express.

Stop by a Holiday Open House at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., from 2 to 7 p.m. Step into the festive spirit with a cup of hot cider and delightful Grandma Brust cookies while little ones can enjoy crafting letters to Santa and check out the model train set.

Between 3 and 8 p.m., take a stroll through the new Candy Cane Lane Holiday Market located in the Lombard Historical Society courtyard, 23 W. Maple St. The activities, hosted by the Lombard Historical Society and Lombard Area Chamber of Commerce, will include holiday shopping with vendors, including Soapy Roads, Mamie's Toffee and Treats, Illinois Bee Rescue, and Spiritus Coffee; photo booth; food trucks; hot chocolate; and holiday characters. There will be tours of the Victorian Cottage starting at 5:45 p.m.; tickets are available starting at 5 p.m. The Chicago Carolers will perform from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and there will be face painting from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Select an assortment of homemade cookies at the annual Cookie Walk from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Calvary Church, 105 W. Maple. Fill a box and pay by the half-pound.

Get into the Jubilee spirit at the new Helen Plum Library from 4 to 8 p.m. Enjoy a wintry photo booth, Holiday Lights glasses (while supplies last), and appearances by your favorite snowy princesses. Eastwind Vocal Ensemble from Glenbard East High School will delight you with music at 4:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. at the library, 411 S. Main St.

On your way to Lilacia Park for the tree lighting, stop by the corner of Maple and Main streets as First United Methodist Church members will be singing carols and offering cookies between 5 and 6 p.m.

If you're looking to warm up a little, join the First Church of Lombard, 220 S. Main St., inside for a cup of Christmas cider and make a Christmas ornament from 5 to 8 p.m.

Join a sing-along with the duo Kilty Pleasure from 5 to 7 p.m. in Maple Street Chapel, 220 S. Main St. Be sure to bring your beautiful voices to help out the performers!

After the tree lighting, enjoy Glenbard East Honors Orchestra Concerts at 6 and 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of Lombard Bible Church, 111 S. Park Ave. There will be hot cocoa, cookies, and crafts in the gym from 6 to 8 p.m.

A favorite event, Jingles' Holiday House Decorating Contest, returns for a little friendly competition. There will be a Holiday Lights Map, so families can drive through town and take in the sights of the holidays. The community will vote on houses entered in the contest and winning houses will receive a prize. A downloadable map will be live on lombardparks.com beginning Friday, Dec. 1. Each weekend throughout December, visit Lilacia Park's Holiday Lights as children can visit with Santa Claus and their favorite holiday characters, enjoy a spectacular light show with complimentary hot chocolate and cookies.
