Elk Grove Village approves second consecutive flat tax levy

For the second consecutive year, Elk Grove Village trustees have passed a flat tax levy, officials announced.

The approximately $27.8 million levy - for property taxes payable in 2024 - demonstrates the village's commitment to providing residents with high quality services at an affordable price, officials said.

Although the village has not changed the amount of its property tax levy in the past two years, residents may still see a change in the amount owed based upon how Cook County assesses property values, officials noted.

"We have always held ourselves to a high standard of fiscal responsibility. That is one reason Elk Grove residents enjoy a lower cost of living compared to our neighbors," Mayor Craig Johnson said in a news release. "We are proud of our efforts to have zero change the village's tax levy for residents and businesses."

Property taxes collected by the village fund four primary areas: the general fund, debt service, capital projects and retirement funds, including police and fire pension, Social Security and the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.
