Police: Man pointed crossbow at officers after leading them on high-speed chase

A 25-year old Antioch man is in custody after he pointed a crossbow at police officers following a high-speed chase Sunday night that started in Waukegan, authorities said Monday.

Antioch police said they were notified about 10:40 p.m. that Waukegan police were pursuing an armed man and the chase was headed toward the village.

The pursuit entered Antioch heading west on North Avenue and ended at the Antioch Manor apartments on the 400 block of Donin Drive. The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, left his vehicle armed with a crossbow, police said.

According to police, the man pointed the crossbow several times toward Antioch and Waukegan officers trying to de-escalate the situation and keep him from posing a threat to others.

The man fled into an apartment building and again pointed his weapon toward officers who had followed, fearing he was an immediate danger to others, police said.

At that point, a Waukegan officer fired a single shot at the man but it did not strike him or anyone else. The man surrendered and was taken to an area hospital, police said. There is no threat to the community, police said.

Antioch and Waukegan police continue to investigate and will turn their findings over to the Lake County state's attorney's office for a review and possible charges.
