Pretrial release denied for 2 men accused in Naperville beating, home invasion

Two Naperville men have been charged with beating a man outside of an apartment complex and then breaking into an apartment.

DuPage County Judge Anthony Coco Friday denied pretrial release for Jeremy J. Gundlach, 21, of the 100 block of Testa, Naperville, and Daggio F. Castillo, 22, of the 2500 block of Oneida Lane.

Both are charged with home invasion and aggravated battery - great bodily harm.

Police responded around 1 a.m. Wednesday to the 1500 block of West Jefferson Avenue. It is alleged Gundlach and Castillo had traveled from Maywood to confront a person with whom they had been communicating earlier in the evening, according to the charges.

When they arrived, they fought with a man outside the apartment complex, according to the charges. It is alleged they broke the man's nose and other facial bones and that he will need surgery, according to a news release from the DuPage County state's attorney's office. Authorities did not say what the dispute was about.

After that, they allegedly kicked in the door of an apartment, entered, and threatened a person inside.

Both men are next due in court on Dec. 18.
