Showing shooting victims won't stop killings
I read Isaac Stanley-Becker's article from the Washington Post regarding mass shootings. I don't believe that showing horrific images to the public of these crimes will make a bit of a difference.
Just turn on the television and you can view mass murders, torture, shootings and rape on most of the dramatic television shows. Cable shows now go above and beyond to out do one another in the killing department.
Video games are another source of graphic scenes of decapitation, mass murders, torture and bludgeoning. Constant viewing of this carnage desensitizes individuals especially young children and adolescents who grow into desensitized adults.
Guns are not the only weapon of choice. There are mass deaths with car bombs, axes, machetes, strangulation, you name it, if someone wants to commit a crime they will find a way.
Perhaps viewing these scenes only enhances otherwise sick individuals to carry out their crimes. They write manifestos that justify their actions, and the media craves to get them published. Like that's going to make any difference to anyone.
Newspapers printing details of these crimes and giving out their names only gives them a place in history. Maybe one should start thinking of the victims and their names and less on the names of the criminals.
