Trump is evidence we need media literacy

Tens of millions of people in this country believe that Donald Trump actually won the 2020 election, because they cannot tell the difference between the truth and a lie. Yet letter writer Gary Sheffert is against Illinois' new law requiring the teaching of media literacy in our schools, because it will take time away from other subjects.

He actually says, "... Illinois families, parents and children alike are intelligent enough to deal with 'media literacy.'" If that were the case, someone like Donald Trump would not be the Republican frontrunner in the 2024 presidential race.

Not only should we be teaching media literacy, but civics and the constitution as well. We'd all benefit the next time a bully and liar like Trump tries to run for office.
