Arlington Heights Rotary Santa Run kicks off the season

The Rotary Santa Run will celebrate its 16th year in Arlington Heights.

The Rotary Santa Run will be Saturday, Dec. 2, along Campbell Street. The festivities kick off with the "Reindeer Dash" at 9:30 a.m. This year, kids ages 10 and younger will be able to race with the Grinch.

Then at 10 a.m., the Rotary Santa 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk will start. Even if you're not a runner or walker, come out and see the kids race, watch the sea of Santas do their run, and have some free hot chocolate, sponsored by Kilwins.

This year a family rate option is offered, and the first 1,750 runners will receive a commemorative medal. For race details and to register, visit www.rotarysantarun.org.

"Once again, our club is working hard to make it a fun and safe morning for the community to kick off the holiday season," said Dave Weiner, Rotary Club of Arlington Heights president. "It's humbling to see the support of businesses and the community in helping Rotary serve causes locally and around the world."

Santa suits that come with the registration may be picked up during the scheduled packet pickup held at the Arlington Ridge Center Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. Thanks again to the Arlington Heights Park District for donating the use of their facility.

Check The Rotary Club of Arlington Heights website and Santa Run Facebook page for regular updates and additional activities leading up to race day.

Over the years, the Santa Run has raised nearly $500,000 to distribute to organizations in the Arlington Heights community and to international initiatives. The club continues help individuals impacted by food insecurity through contributions to food pantries in the community.

Globally, Rotary is working to eradicate polio worldwide, bring clean water to communities, improve sanitation and support educational opportunities.
