Light recycling event

To help reduce landfill waste, holiday light recycling will be available at Algonquin's Ganek Municipal Center through the village's collaboration with Elgin Recycling beginning Monday

The center, located at 2200 Harnish Drive, will accept unusable or unwanted lights through Jan. 17 - in time for those looking to recycle their lights after the holiday season. A container will be available for drop-offs in the building's lobby during its regular business hours.

The program includes mini-lights, C7 lights, C9 lights, rope lights, LED lights and extension cords of any length. The items will be accepted at no cost.

The village is asking recyclers to remove all tinsel, garland, plastic casing and other decoration items from the lights beforehand.
