Honesty is key ingredient in winning

Shame on you, Jim O'Donnell, for touting winning ahead of integrity. Your words illustrate that the valued maxim that sports builds character is no longer true. You list three winning coaches who cheated their way to victories and your attitude is, essentially, "So what? They win."

Winning is the only thing only when done honorably by respecting the rules. The mess in our country results from the belief expressed in your column of Nov. 2 and embraced by too many people, including an ex-president, coaches, CEOs, and politicians, who believe that cheating and lying are acceptable as long as victory is achieved.

If our country is to move forward, we must hold those who cheat accountable. For me, winning is important, but it is the only thing when honestly achieved.
