One person injured, two homes left uninhabitable after early morning fire in Round Lake Beach

One person was injured by an early morning fire in Round Lake Beach Thursday which started in a shed and spread to two neighboring houses.

Firefighters with the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District were dispatched to the 1000 block of North Williams Avenue just before 3:30 a.m. and found the shed engulfed in flames. The fire already had spread to a fence and both homes, fire officials said.

Round Lake Beach police evacuated residents and one resident was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with injuries not considered serious, officials said.

Fire crews extinguished the blaze within 45 minutes. Both homes were rendered uninhabitable because of the significant fire, smoke and water damage they sustained, officials said.

Fire Prevention Specialist Bruce Hill of the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District said investigators aren't yet sure what caused the fire but have determined it started in the shed.
